Robin Roberts, Good Morning America anchor announced today that she’s been diagnosed with a rare blood and bone marrow disease called myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a condition once known as pre-leukemia. Robin said she received the diagnosis several months ago and will receive a bone marrow transplant from her older sister later this year. Her sister, good friend Diane Sawyer and her cast mates were with her this morning when she made the announcement.
I have always enjoyed Robin on GMA and have admired her intelligence and bravery, especially when she announced 5 years ago that she was battling breast cancer. For some who are diagnosed with cancer they prefer to go it alone, but Robin decided early on that her battle, and treatment could offer encouragement and help to others who were waging their own battle. I think she was right, she inspired so many with her courage.
My best wishes and prayers go out to Robin.
